IOM PBF Security Sector Reform Project: Gender Inclusive Security (Nothing for Us without Us)

Community Training on Gender and SSR Training Liberia has taken significant steps towards peace and stability, and it is now entering a post-security transition phase. On 30 June 2016, the Government took over all the security responsibilities from the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), after which a significant number of military and police personnel were withdrawn from the country.

While challenges remain, especially in the run-up to the 2017 elections, overall, the Government has made significant progress towards reforms designed at strengthening the country’s security institutions.  The participants who are women from both Existing and New Peace Huts; 20 persons from each community of an Existing Peace hut, and 50 persons from each community of the New Peace Huts were excited and fully responsive in the process. At the end of the project, four (4) new peace huts were established with a total membership 50 persons each while the old peace huts (old) has a membership 20 persons.
